Evil in "goodness" dress - There is no excuse - Sexual predators in the church (Book recommendation - English version)

My previous article was a book recommendation in Hungarian language at first, but I've decided to write down it in English too, because the topic is too important to keep it only my native language. However, the writer is a Hungarian catholic teologist, Rita Perintfalvi, who is working in German territory. This is her first book about this sensitive topic ; Sexual assaults in the Catholic church.

Apperantly, this problem is not simple and unique, mostly not isolated, the foreign statistics are served enough emphasize, that the priests commited "structural sins", and the reason were various things as we will read the criminals profiles and methods. This is not just a diary, where the victims sharing their stories, what they suffered. But the author explained clearly, how and why happened these horrible assaults with them and from this point of view, this is an individual using tool, with the victims would like to help in to save the people from the sexual and spiritual exploitation in the future. "I can't tell anyone, Hence I tell everyone" as the hungarian phrase said, but I need to complete with one sentence on my own, which I used to talking about many times before that " for the others interests, that I help on myself and I can heal myself too."

Let me take you back about a few years, because this topic is in the mainstream area in globaly for a long time. I am intrested in this subject and system problem since 2016, when I have seen the Spotlight movie, which it was won the best movie category that year on the Academy Award. Which is playing at the begining of the twenty first century, when the Boston Globe published dozen of articles about pedophile crimes, which were happened in the local catholic churches. At the end of the movie they were listed the states and countries, where appeared this kind of sexual assault crimes, however my country was missed, but our neighbours Slovenia and Croatia were in there. I far as I remembered how much I could not accept this thing, if I saw almost every country in Europe and lot of places in other continents. How could it possible this is a "non-existent" problem in my country in Hungary?

The title of this article is not an accidental thing, because the church is a citadel of the universal goodness and justice. Around of the respect and appreciation and the believers owe unconditional obeyance to it's direction. Which is unquestionable and that's why this superior trust, which they are giving to the church like a tax, involve them in danger and abolish their insight and become victims of the "spiritual assault", which I am emphasizing this is not their mistake. Throughout the diferent kind of cases it was drawing recurrent motives and the criminals came closer to the victims trusts and became indispensable in the victims lifes. But they were step over the boundaries increasingly as the sexual predators.

The reason, which was show more than this topic and over the unique cases, that is the culture of behaviour or the lack of this thing, what the church was showing for many decades and allowing to themselves opposite the victims. Who wanted to keep the ugly truth in silence or isolated them from the church community, because they didn't believe to them. It was not a unique case that the children voices were not being heared by their parents or trivialized the serious of the problem and they did not believe to them, because the well-known and respectful "criminal", which was a priest, who is in front of the people from the outside of the world could not believe to be he is guilty. As we can see that, how much easy to make sleep the suspection about somebody, who we think he is a superior man, because he is serving God and he use this situation in sequence. One of this truth story as we know that, under the training and preparing of the monks were happened assaults and they used the guilt as a disciplinary tool.

However, the celibacy is not the unique reason of this thing, moreover the homosexual identity is not a reason of exclusion, just because among the victims belongs to many little boy too. Contrarly, this happen because of the prohibitation of celibacy they don't think this act is a sin, what they have done with them. So that, the new law what the Hungarian Parlament voted against the pedophile people, which is an other stigma in the LGBTQ members, also just a new mouse path to the Hungarian Catolic Church to divert the attention from the real criminals, who are nicely, quietly and continuesly reduce their own flock and they are causing serious psychological damages, which the victims could be process after more decades, if they capable.

The book was born after a very intensive background searching and we could not go without any words the persons, who thank to announced this system problem, what the previous clergymen and popes did not handle as a priority. Pope Francis announced zero tolerance in this question and made important steps in 2019, so the first act was thanked by him. However, it seems clearly for this time they can not handle the problem globaly, because there is no single resolution and because of the so called " tradition of the secrecy" is so strong in the local churches, that only a serious clearing wave could end and help to set a more justical system, where based on the world law order could punish the sinners, not just dismissing them from the bond of church.

The big question, is there any chance for the Church to keep up it's institution in the future, if they not allow to pull out the sinner priests and they are hiding them for many years ? And of course, this is not the one and only area, where the predators could disturbing and ruining lifes and crippling children and for this behaviour they are reducing the number of their own believers and followers continuesly, because who wants to trust her child to an institution, where she or he is not in safe?

Neither the wasting of time, nor the fight and author character's killing are worthless now, because the truth is seems clearly in black and white that there is a Serious Social Problem. In more level, and more aspects. Betrayal, abuse of trust, sexual abuse and in a level this is a so called "soul murder" where the priests steal the victims faith. And just depends on to become survivors that, how much they are strong in mentaly and how much can they bear.

It was not a good feeling, when I faced with the fact that many times they were using out people, who suffered from lack of love, loneliness or abused before, like a wounded animal, what the sharks could easily catch. Who were searching help and peace, but instead they pussed deeper in the dark and because of this thing I can not go without any words as a human rights activist. And the doubt , which is questioning inside of a man.(" If I went to the church with my spiritual problems and depression would I involve myself in danger?")  And I am sure, who are reading this book like an outsider would be think about this, because it is very easy to become a prey, where the obedience is expectation and the trust is unconditional.

However, like I used to be a follower, fortunately I have positive memories from the religious educations, camps and community meetings, when I had time for them. But I don't stigmatize neither the victims, nor the writer as liars, who spent lot of times and energy to investigate the cases and listening them. Like Pope Francis and we are many of them, who want changes to make our society better, to change and repair mistakes, but we have no direct connection to them. However, an inner voice is order to us to care for others, innocents and not just ourself in the "age of aquarius"
